News

  • As Christmas is nearly over, we won't be adding any more to this site before autumn 2008. But do check back for our new blog on seasonal activities throughout the year, which will in time go together with a similar website.

  • Some things to look forward to in January are mentioned on the calendar page.

  • Do check out the last posts of our Christmas Blog as well as our Craft Blog, talking about seasonal activities. The Craft Blog will keep going throughout 2008

Christmas TreeThe Twelfth Day of Christmas is the 5th of January. The day to take down tree and decorations - if you still have them up! It's supposed to be unlucky to keep them up longer. This superstition seems to date from the nineteenth century in England.

The older tradition (as mentioned by Robert Herrick in the seventeenth century) was for decorations to last until the end of the season, Candlemas, on the 2nd of February. If you like your evergreens - why not put some more up between 5th of Jan and the 2nd of Feb to jolly up the month of January a bit?

Christmas matters....

Talking, remembering, sharing, creating - these are the things that provide the fuel for friendships & families.  We've created this place to encourage people to remember what Christmas is about & what makes it special for them. It's so easy to get bogged down in spending money and running around at the last minute, and in all that busy-ness & toil we forget that Christmas is a feast of love, celebration & peace.

Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories & love of
kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit,
become a child again at Christmas-time.

Spirit of Christmas

Christmas memories are made up of wonderful moments of fun & laughter - beingSanta decoration allowed to sit up & watch Eric & Ernie, singing along to 'The Sound of Music' with your mum.  Here are some reminders of the stuff that Christmas wouldn't be the same without.

More resources

There's a handy calendar to remind you about special times for preparation, planning, celebration & to ramp up the excitement, and a page of links to other sites which we recommend.
